The UFT won a slew of political victories in
The wins — which included getting the state and city to keep their promises on school funding during a downturn in the economy as well as winning a 55/25 early retirement plan for UFT members — wouldn’t have happened without the union’s political action strength.
While politics is a key arena where unions fight for their members, federal law prohibits unions from using members’ dues for any political or legislative activities not related to servicing members or collective bargaining. That means the cost of doing one vital type of union work has to be borne by voluntary donations, and from members only. That’s why you need UFT COPE. That’s why UFT COPE needs you, now!
Out of our 167 eligible members, 103 of us currently do not contribute. That is over 60%. Lets all give what we can! See me to join or I’ll see you!
Just for Paraprofessionals
-Any UFT member can nominate a paraprofessional for Outstanding Paraprofessional Award. I will redistribute the nominations forms. Please nominate each other and return them prior to December 2nd to the address on the bottom.
-Paraprofessionals now have citywide seniority, which means that they can move to positions across the city based on seniority. In addition, per session and circular 6 postings are assigned based on district seniority.
