CONTRACT
Many of you have been asking the question, “What is going on with our contract?” Our contract expires on October 31, 2009. All I know is that the negotiation committee has been convening and demands have been exchanged. At this time, there is no further information.
Contract negotiations are not easy. Both sides want something and when they cannot agree, the process is stagnant. As such, we are at the point where it does not seem likely that a contract is agreed upon by the October 31st deadline. That would mean that the last agreement would still be in effect.
MAYORAL ELECTIONS
Who are we endorsing? The answer at this time is NO ONE! While many would agree that another four years of Bloomberg would be worst for education than the last eight, the truth of the matter is we are in contract negotiations with that administration.
We do not know who is going to win this mayoral race. At this time, Thompson is behind by as much as double digit points (depending on the poll you look at). We do not like that Bloomberg is misleading the citizens on New York by saying he has raised test scores, when we know that is not the truth! NAEP (National Association of Educational Progress has recently reported that fourth grade test scores have remained stagnant in NYC since 2003. Harold Levy was Chancellor then!
It is up to us as voters to assert our voices this election to get what we want. If this is an important issue to you, then get your family and friends out on November 3 and VOTE!
