We are on the state’s list of “persistently dangerous” (PD) schools, (the only new addition from the district). This means that the incidents that have been reported to the state are so severe that we are in need of both supervision and intervention. Are we dangerous? ABSOLUTELY NOT!
It turns out that most serious incidents occur on the bus. However, the state’s formula does not differentiate between a busing and in-school incident. However, I know of no one who feels unsafe in this school. If you do have a concern, please bring it to my attention so that it may be addressed.
We can only control the environment that we are in. Once students are on the bus, our staff is no longer engaged with them (unless there is a 1:1 paraprofessional). Do we began to under report or neglect to report incidents in school, where staff get injured? ABSOLUTELY NOT!
OARS (Accident) reports and UFT Safety forms should be filed immediately. These reports must be filed within 24 hours of the incident. This is for your protection. It also is a way to gauge how safe (or unsafe) our school is.
Is safety a concern at your site?
